Home Inspections: One-Time or Yearly?

Home Inspections. Are they a one-time deal before you buy your home, or is this something that should be done yearly? When should it be done?

While a professional inspection of the home you’re planning on purchasing is a must-have, in our opinion, ongoing inspections of your home are another must that should be on your yearly to-do list.

Your home, as glass-half-empty as this sounds, is falling apart. It may be slow, but it is happening. While this typically isn’t an immediate concern, keeping tabs on the state of your home will allow you to perform the appropriate preventative maintenance to keep your home in the best operational state possible. There’s a lot that can go wrong in your home! Dripping pipes, leaky gas lines, roof damage, rodents and pests, rotting timbers, crumbling foundations… the list goes on. By personally performing a regular inspection around your home, you will develop a solid understanding of your home and the state of things. You’ll be able to catch problems before they happen.

When’s the best time to do this? Anytime really. At this time in the year, we are * cough cough * getting ready for winter around the bend. Getting a full check of your home done now before the weather turns will allow you to fix anything that needs repaired or maintained before winter hits. Let’s face it, fixing the gutters is much more enjoyable in the warm sunshine rather than while shivering on a frozen ladder. And trying to strap a load of wood to the top of your car isn’t so fun when you can’t feel your fingers… A few minutes while it’s nice outside checking around your home will give you peace of mind and ultimately save you money!
