Sump pumps! Those rarely remembered items hidden away in the deepest, darkest corners of your basement... While often forgotten, don't forget to check them out from time to time!

We spent the afternoon removing water-ruined carpet from a client's basement. Their sump pump got a clog and wasn't pumping water out, allowing water to flood their basement.

Checking that your sump pump is working properly is as simple as slowly pouring a 5-gallon bucket of water into your sump basket. If you hear a hum and see the water level dropping, you're good to go! If not, you might have saved yourself an impending insurance claim and should look into why it's not working.
