Garbage Disposal Cautions

Garbage disposal’s are one of those things that have been super helpful over the past hundred years! Not only do they dispose the food in your sinks but they continually keep them from clogging. However, as helpful as they can be there are cautions with what to put in your sink…

1. COFFEE GROUNDS are one of the biggest things people wouldn’t necessarily think of when throwing things into your disposal. However, this leads to it creating a paste and clogging up your system, which would bee difficult to clean out.

2. GREASE, everyone knows that this is the most popular NO NO to washing down your drain pipes It will clog and even bring it to a complete standstill. The best option would be to put your grease into an old jar or old food container and put it into the waste.

3. PASTA, is one of those sticky foods that shouldn’t be put down your disposal but rather eaten or placed in your fridge. It is too hard for the disposal to break it all up with out some being left over and clogging.

4. PRODUCE STICKERS, are one of things no one ever thinks of and can easily be unnoticed as you rinse your fruits and vegetables. Be mindful to take take them off and throw them away.

5.  CLEANING PRODUCTS will kill off any helpful bacteria that aids in breaking down appropriate products. With certain products it’s smarter to dilute it with water first before you throw the bottle away.

6. CHICKEN BONES & CHICKEN SKINS, are both extremely hard to break apart and the skins can stick to the sides. It can end up staying in your garbage disposal for days or weeks leaving behind a terrible smell. It’s highly recommended to just throw these items in a plastic bag and then into your trash can.

Even though it’s the “easy” way out to get rid of your garbage, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the wisest choice. Keep these recommendations in mind to keep your pipes and garbage disposal in good condition! This will help you from having to replace your disposal which could cost you an average of $375 or more!
