How Much Do Blinds Cost?

Typical contractor answer: “it depends.”

Helpful much? Didn’t think so…

While the cost of purchasing blinds, and the cost of installing blinds can vary greatly on numerous factors, there are still some averages. Here they are for you!

BLINDS PURCHASE

On average in Minnesota, for a good set of blinds you can expect to pay anywhere from $300-$150 per piece, and then all the way up to $800-$600 for high end motorized blinds. However, the commonly purchased blinds range from $150-$50 per blind. These are usually in the lower range of quality and durability. These cheaper blinds can still be what fit your needs, but typically you’ll have fewer options and be facing that quality issue.

When you’re looking to purchase blinds, check out the material, the warranty, the reviews, the manufacturer, and more of these pesky little details that can tell you a lot about what you’re investing into.

  • A set of “wood” blinds may be made out of particle board or MDF. This may or may not be an issue for you, but you don’t want fake wood blinds to arrive when you thought you were getting real wood.

  • The warranty can help you determine the quality. A set of blinds with a 10 year warranty is “probably” going to hold up better than a set of blinds that comes with only a 1 year warranty. How much does the manufacturer stand behind their product?

  • How many reviews do the blinds have? How many stars are the reviews? Just as you would do when ordering shoes or new a coffee maker off Amazon, check the reviews and see what other people have to say

  • The manufacturer should also be something to check. Is this a company you’ve never heard of before, or are they a name brand that “everyone” uses for their blinds? Some manufacturers have such a good track record that you can trust more.

While there are still more details you could look into, the idea is really to check out all the ins and outs of the blinds as a responsibly shopper to not only make sure you’re getting exactly what you want, but also to make sure the specs match your needs.

BLINDS INSTALL

The cost of installing blinds, again varies a lot. Installation services can vary from your specialized blinds manufacturer/seller/installer combo doing the entire process for a premium, all the way down to your neighbor installing your blinds for a 6-pack of beer. On recorded average, Minnesotan’s can expect to pay between $150-$50 per window as the typical range for installation costs. Again, this is the average. The type of blinds, the size of blinds, complexity of access, and how many blinds are being installed are all factors that can significantly affect the price.

At Inside Out Solutions, we start our blind installations at $80 per blind for shorter lengths under 4 feet, and move up to $140 for most standard window lengths above 4 feet. That’s how our basic pricing for regular windows works. This includes any additional screw or anchoring hardware that might be needed.

When you’re pricing your blind installation out, be aware that many installers may have travel fees, charge for disposal if you want them to take the old blinds, have minimum visit charges, and such. It’s good to check out their website for details as well as to get an estimate or a quote explaining what is/is not included. If you have any further questions, have a conversation with your installer of choice to help clarify anything that’s still unclear to you.
